Unpleasant incident or “SEO Unpopularity and the Way Backwards”…
I am not a rowdy person, but I don’t like to be humiliated and I hate rudeness.
The case I want to tell you about happened to me at one of the most respected SEO blogs.
I saw a post “Seo, popularity and way forward“, which I found making too grandiose, but mostly useless precepts and wrote a comment saying this to the author in quite a decent manner just expressing my disappointment, without switching to personalities or insulting anyone. As a result, I was insulted by blog owners in rather obvious manner and then banned!
As I didn’t have the chance to answer the blog owners overthere, I would like to restore justice and will answer them here.
Inspired by the seobook owners extraordinary “politeness” and “unspeakable” attitude to their readers, I have come up the following title for my reply:
“SEO Unpopularity and the Way Backwards”.
My comment was:
Lots of preaching, but very little useful information.
You say “be this, be that and you’ll be a genius” -
Let me ask you, did you try to follow your “great” advices yourself?People cannot be anything they are not, no matter how hard one tries to teach them how to become another person, and such general recommendations certainly do not help.
How can someone become a great expert, a writer, a leader and create a brand out of a blue sky, if he didn’t have a bent for it? And if he did – he probably wouldn’t need your advice.
Instead of going round the houses, you could give much fewer of less grandiose but more practical advices, those would really be appreciated.I am sorry, but I am disappointed; very disappointed.
Aaron Wall’s reply:
Practice leads people down the path toward success. Some people are smart and can piece data points together. Others are dumb and have no chance at becoming successful. We write for the people we think we can help.
No, Aaron - some people only think they are smart, but in fact they are just smart asses who proclaim themselves to be Gurus, but in fact have very no or very little new practical knowledge to pass. And to make semblance of ever going and growing activity to attract and keep their readership, those Gurus publish articles rambling about useless general maxims, which makes impression on weak minds and create them followers.
Yes, Aaron, you are right, there ARE smart people. However, smart people can distinguish the true knowledge from pretentious chaff, and they won’t fall prey to false Gurus.
And yes, Aaron, unfortunately your are right, there ARE people, whom you think you can teach, but the big problem is that they will never learn! And not necessarily because they are dumb, as you say, but because they can’t distinguish real knowledge from spectacular claptrap and all they do is sitting there with an open mouth and listening to your preaching gibberish.
That was the famous Aaron Wall - SEO guru of all Gurus.
The author of the article, and seemingly the blog co-owner PeterD, replied:
Sorry to hear that (that I was disappointed by the article). Perhaps it wasn’t aimed at your individual level.
You are right, Peter, it was way, way below it.
Instead of conclusion
Reputable blog owners should not insult or be rude to their readers - it is absolutely unacceptable practise!
Even if a reader is criticising, have a dignity and courage to reply in a decent, respectful manner without any attempt even at a hidden insult of your reader.
Your readership is the gold that makes your living possible.
